Full Description

The AMALIE was built in 1851 and her Master was Hoo Steinholtz. She had a crew of 10, of which 2 were lost. (1) The hull of this vessel stranded in Chesil Cove a short time since, was on Wednesday last submitted to public auction by Mr. T.R. Charles for the benefit of whom it may concern. The attendance of bidders was tolerably numerous, and eventually the vessel was knocked down to Messrs. Comben and Ward for the sum of £175. As the AMALIE had been drifted by the tide several yards higher up the shore than where she was beached, she is now out of great danger from breakers, and there is every probability she will be floated again when the state of the weather allows of the attempt being made. (2). Captain mistook Portland for the Needles when the ship became embayed and could not escape. The two crewmen lost were Joaclin Breos, able seaman of Ydassen, and Emier Bryott, mate, of Hamburg. Tobacco and spirits were landed under the direction of P.S freeman, the vessel becoming a total wreck. (3) 01-FEB, AMELIA, brig was stranded becoming a total loss in Chesil Cove, Portland in wind SW 7.(4)
