The Alert, a tug, drove ashore and was wrecked whilst at moorings in wind conditions W force 10 near the New Pier, Portland. Also lost was the barge, Thistle and several other small boats, 3 March 1897.

Full Description
The Alert drove ashore and was wrecked whilst at moorings in wind conditions W force 10 near the New Pier, Portland. (2) She was built in 1875 and had one boiler. She was screw driven by a two cylinder compound engine. She was owned by G H Collins and Co., Dartmouth.
