Full Description
`Weymouth, 20th Dec: Last evening a Dutch galliot was driven on shore near Blacknore, Portland; on a piece of her stern 20 Van, Amsterdam appears in gilt letters. Oranges and lemons are floating in every direction; the vessel is entirely wrecked. Four of the crew saved. (1) `The FORTUNA, Visnar, from Oporto to Amsterdam was driven on shore on the 19th instant, on the west side of Portland, and totally lost; crew saved. (2) 20 Van, Amsterdam probably indicates the date of building as 1820, Dutch vessels usually having this date painted upon them, and the port of registration, van = of. Built: 1820?
