`Sept.17, Weymouth: John Pocock to James Hickes. A private man o war has been cast away on that coast. (3) Stranded/Total Loss (2) Source (1) refers to the vessel as a hulk (in the 14th-17th century sense of `cargo vessel), while source (2) describes it as a warship. Date of Loss Qualifier: R The building date for this vessel is an estimate based on an average age at wrecking of twenty years. This average is derived from those vessels wrecked on the Dorset coast whose age at wrecking is known.
