Full Description

The CERES `...ran ashore in thick fog close to the lifeboat station. When the wind and tide changed she was carried onto Broad Bench, some distance off Kimmeridge. Two men got into her boat to lay out an anchor with a view to kedging her off, but the boat capsized in the surf and one of the men was swept away and drowned. The other clung to the boats keel for some time, holding onto its oars until the lifeboat found him. The master was saved.'
