Full Description

Vessel carried a large quantity of deer antlers. Found by divers in the early 1970s, and salvaged. (1) 06-JUN-1985 A Wooden wreck, carrying Portland stone, was located in 50 40.27N 001 55.25W. (2). She was later recorded as the remains of a small wooden wreck, possibly an 18th century stone barge, which was discovered by accident on the edge of Hook sandbank while looking for a Valentine Tank at 50 40.25N 001 55.21W. The lower parts of her hull are intact with a cargo of blocks of stone and bundles of antlers. Soon after the site was discovered, some preliminary archaeological work was carried out in conjunction with Poole Maritime Museum.
