Full Description

`The TOPSHAM, Godfrey, from Poole to Dartmouth, in going out of harbour the 11th instant, ran on shore on the Hook and is since beat to pieces, the crew were all saved. (1) Source (2) interprets the place of loss as Dartmouth and therefore the entry for this vessel appears under South Devon (AH); the date of loss is additionally given as 16-MAR-1770, the LL. reporting date. Master: Godfrey Date of Loss Qualifier: A The building date for this vessel is an estimate based on an average age at wrecking of twenty years. This average is derived from those vessels wrecked on the Dorset coast whose age at wrecking is known.
