Full Description
`The BLESSING, Feard, from Newcastle, in going into Poole Harbour, struck on the Hook, and it is feared will be lost. Master: Feard. Date of Loss Qualifier: R <1>
`To be sold by auction, on Tuesday the 26th of August 1783, at Mr Temple's Quay, in South Shields, the materials saved from the ship BLESSING, consisting of anchors, cables, warps, towlines, sails, etc. The sale to begin at 10 o'clock in the forenoon.' <2>
The fact that the vessel had come from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, together with the sale of her materials at Shields, indicates the likelihood of Newcastle being her home port.
The building date for this vessel is an estimate based on an average age at wrecking of twenty years. This average is derived from those vessels wrecked on the Dorset coast whose age at wrecking is known.
