The Dagmar, previously the Leonora, was built in 1922 (sic) and at the outbreak of war was requisitioned and well armed by the government. This collier, measuring 844 gross tons and measuring 213ft long with a beam of 31ft, was fully loaded with Welsh coal en route to Poole. On the 9th June 1941, the Luftwaffe raked her with machine gun fire and then dropped bombs into her bunkers - within an hour she had sunk. (10)
