Full Description
A smack was seen in difficulties off Christchurch Head, and the new Swanage lifeboat CHARLOTTE MAY was launched, some of her crew being in church at the time. They went as far as the Head in a terrific gale, but saw and found nothing, and the vessel was presumed lost. The building date for this vessel is an estimate based on an average age at wrecking of twenty years. This average is derived from those vessels wrecked on the Dorset coast whose age at wrecking is known.
