Full Description
Excavation examined extant earthwork and noted sub-surface ditches containing Romano-British pottery, interpreted as field boundaries. A buried soil containing Iron Age pottery was recorded.
The earthwork was interpreted as being 'barrier' rather than a boundary, perhaps being constructed to separate the low lying waterlogged land parcel from the more useful farmland to the south and west. The earthwork was found to seal a buried soil horizon containing Romano-British pottery. It was thought most likely to have been constructed in the medieval period. No evidence of any previous settlement was noted.(1)
