Rifle Range on Ballard Down, Studland, shown as disused on 1928 OS map. (1)
The rifle butts associated with the range described above in (1) are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s. Four butts formed of linear banks are located between 86 m and 90 m apart and cover an area measuring 282 m by 98 m. The easternmost of the butts is broader than the other three, measuring up to 9 m in width. (2) The site is partially visible as an earthwork on the most recent comprehensive aerial imagery available to the project. (3) This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
