Full Description

Layer revealed during watching brief at Portland Castle. Clean, sterile, clay deposit containing traces of iron panning and seals a Roman plough layer (find spot WX3354). Appears to have accumulated over considerable period of time. Remained intact until 17th century when demolition deposit dumped on top.
