Full Description

Lawn shed earthworks cut by evaluation trenches. Lawn sheds vary from 1.25 to 1.5m wide, are about 0.2m high and composed entirely of soil Site lies within medieval open field system of Portland in what was known as the 'Great West Field'. The lack of any structure or other difference to the surrounding plough soils in lawn sheds confirms that these earthworks were baulks left to separate the strips or 'lawns' (2)
