Two unusual pits dated to the Post-Roman period excavated in Field T

Large complex pit overlying and cutting a Roman grave, dated to the Post-Roman period on ceramic evidence. Fresh and abraded sherds from a single vessel present in all layers and rim and base sherds suggested a large, flat based cooking jar with a simple upright rim. A large amount of burnt hearthstone was recovered from the charcoal rich fill. A further pit cut this feature, that widened underground to from a flask like shape. It comprised nine layers of dirty silty gravels and white clay contained within a hard, dark, clay like lining and was c. 2m deep. There were no finds and the function of this feature is uncertain (1)
