Find Spot record MWX3682 - 22 West Walls, Wareham: medieval pottery
Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
Medieval pottery recovered during an archaeological evaluation in 2002 of a site proposed for development suggests settlement or possibly industrial activity near by. The pottery was not associated with any recognised archaeological features, though a possible occupation layer was recorded.

Full Description
No pre-modern archaeological features were revealed although a possible occupation layer was present immediately above the natural sub soil. This layer contained lenses of burnt and raw clay, burnt limestone and a small quantity of Roman and medieval pottery and suggests that settlement or industrial type activity is present on or close to the site. One medieval sherd may be a waster, possibly suggesting pottery production close by. A deep 17th/18th century occupation layer overlies this deposit (1)
