Full Description

A jettyshown on the Ordnance Survey map of 1885 and marked as Cobb Gate Jetty on later editions. (1, 2) Although there is a suggestion that there may have been a jetty at Cobb Gate since medieval times, indeed that it may even predate the Cobb, there is no evidence for it until 1840. This structure was built of Blue Lias stone with a capping of Portland Stone, there are several areas of repair after damage to the structure by storms, notably in the mid 1970’s when the entire central section was destroyed.(3)
