Summary
An old gravel pit shown on the Ordnance Survey map of 1885, also shown on the map of 1900, located on the northern edge of Slepe Heath, Arne. A group of pits are visible here as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1946. They are considered likely to be the remains of the post medieval gravel pits described above.

Full Description
Old gravel pits are shown on the Ordnance Survey map of 1885 [1] and of 1900 [2].
A group of pits are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the northern edge of Slepe Heath, Arne taken in 1946 (3). They are considered likely to be the remains of the post medieval gravel pits described above. These features were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project. They are not clearly visible on the most recent Google Earth imagery, this area now overgrown with scrub.
