Full Description

Probable slipway, Bridport Harbour, marked on an 1840 Tithe Map. (1) A curvilinear feature marked on the 1843 Symondsbury Tithe Map was identified as a possible slipway during the Wessex Archaeology Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment. The identification of this feature is not certain as it appears to lie behind the pier on the west side of the narrow approach into the harbour (2). The plot is described in the apportionment as Commons etc, part of Bridport Harbour (2). From its location, it is possible that it may represent some sea defences around the seaward side of 'The Mound'. The feature is not identified on James Green's 1823 map of Bridport Harbour (3).
