Full Description
An old rifle range marked on the second edition OS map. It is marked with Old Butts and in 100 yard increments up to 800 yards (1).
Remains of this rifle range are visible on aerial photographs (2-5) and Lidar imagery (6) of Chesil Beach. It is considered likely this range would have also been in use during the Second World War. These features were digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
