Summary
Stone saw mills, marked on the second edition OS map. Large covered building, steel framed with corrugated asbestos and iron walls and roof. Represents a (1931?) enlargement and rebuilding of the original partly open work yard. A photograph taken in April 1930 shows an overhead traveller crane serving the open yard, with railway trucks on a siding. In 1999 this was the primary stone works, to which quarried blocks were brought from the quarries to be sawn on two faces only.

Full Description
Stone saw mills, marked on the second edition OS map. (1) Large covered building, steel framed with corrugated asbestos and iron walls and roof. Represents a (1931?) enlargement and rebuilding of the original partly open work yard (2-3). A photograph taken in April 1930 shows an overhead traveller crane serving the open yard, with railway trucks on a siding. (4) In 1999 this was the primary stone works, to which quarried blocks were brought from the quarries to be sawn on two faces only. Main diamond-tipped saws included one 3.5m diameter and two 3m diameter circular saws, and two multi-bladed frame saw units. Sawn stone was taken by lorry to the secondary works immediately N. (5)
