A gravel pit is marked at this location on the 1st and 2nd epoch Ordnance Survey maps <1> <2>. Pits and earthworks associated with this gravel extraction are visible on aerial photographs of Lodge Wood taken in 1947 <3>. These features were digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project. They are not visible on the most recent comprehensive aerial images available to the project, this area now covered in dense scrub.
