Spitfire, lost south of Poole, 18/7/40 (1)
At 16.00 hours on 17-7-40 information was received that two Spitfire ‘planes had fallen in the vicinity of Studland. One had fallen in the sea and Flight Lt. Howell the pilot had baled out. (2)
609 Squadron. F/Lt F.J.Howell. Patrol. Baled out south of Poole after combat with Ju 88 off Swanage, 1515, rescued by Navy.(3)
