Full Description

drainage channels at Christchurch Harbour (disused) (1) These channels are visible on the 1st edition 25 inch OS map and a 1796 estate map. They conform to the prevailing field alignment in the region (2-3). Probable post medieval drainage channels are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs in the area of golf links to the north of Stanpit Marsh. The drainage system is visible over an area measuring approximately 440 m by 400 m. The drains are oriented approximately north-south and east-west and are visible as narrow ditches with occasional, associated, banks. (4) This site was digitally plotted during the South West Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset). This site is not visible on the most recent comprehensive aerial imagery available to the project (5). Additional drainage channels were mapped by the Dorset Stour NMP project (6).
