Full Description

The Steamer Peregrine stranded at Portland Bill in 1917. (1) Although she was wrecked in 1917, the Peregrine was not a casualty of war. Rather poor weather and errors in navigation led to her running onto the rocks at Portland Bill on the 14th June. She was towed off the rocks the following month leaking badly, despite this she was successfully towed into Portland harbour where she received temporary repairs before continuing with her voyage.(3) The building date for this vessel is an estimate based on an average age at wrecking of twenty years. This average is derived from those vessels wrecked on the Dorset coast whose age at wrecking is known.
