Measured mile beacons are noted on the index chart of the Hydrographic Office linked to survey C5241 and on modern admiralty charting. The measured mile beacons survive as structures and are visible on recent aerial photographs.

Full Description

Two sets of beacons are noted on the index chart for surveys used by the Hydrographic Office and on modern charting. When visual in line they mark the beginning and end of a 'measured mile' used for ship sea trails (1) The measured mile beacons survive as structures and are visible on recent aerial photographs. One set of two beacons are located to the north west of Tilly Whim Caves. The second set are located approximately 640 m to the east of Blackers Hole. (2-5) This site was digitally plotted during the South west Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey (Dorset).
