Full Description

Fishing vessel lost off Portland Bill in 1982 (1) Sank after developing a leak in 40m of water. Her crew were rescued by the Weymouth lifeboat and landed at Weymouth. Vessel was a standard 32 ft Cygnus craft (2) 'Sank after developing a leak in 40m depth of water. Her crew were rescued by Weymouth lifeboat and landed at Weymouth. Vessel was a standard 32ft Cygnus craft. Decca position (SW Chain) Red (G) 3.3; Purple (F) 60.4.' (1) She had been charted by the UK Hydrographic Office as the AMARANTE in the above position, but their record was amended to DEAD in 2003 when it was thought that due to 'small size and passage of time' she would probably have disintegrated. (2) Where, when built and by whom are not known. Conjectured to have been built of wood on the basis of Cygnus craft of similar size pictured in Source 3. Propulsion: Screw-driven oil engine (1) Length: 9.75m (1); 32 feet (2) - full dimensions are not known. Tonnage: 7 grt (1); 6.6 grt (2) Crew: 3 (1) Owner is not known.
