Full Description

Possible Pirate Vessel lost off Hook Sands in the sixteenth century. At Whitsuntide (May 1581) the GOLDEN HINDE alias SAMUEL "perished about Poole", doubtless on that treacherous bank known as the Hook, and certainly near Studland, for a survivor ….. was received in that bay on board a pinnace.(1) The building date for this vessel is an estimate based on an average age at wrecking of twenty years. This average is derived from those vessels wrecked on the Dorset coast whose age at wrecking is known.
