Summary
The Poole and Bournemouth Railway was formed by the Somerset and Dorset Company in 1865 to build the line from Poole New Junction (Broadstone) to Bournemouth. It opened in 1872 as a single line, and was doubled in 1883. It originally terminated at Bournemouth West station, but with the opening of Bournemouth Central station, the through connection was made to the LSWR's line east of Bournemouth.
