Summary
Dismantled railway. A line to Lyme Regis was proposed in 1845, the first sod was cut in 1874, but arguments as to whether it should join the Yeovil and Exeter line at Axminster or Chard Road delayed proceedings until 1900. The line was completed in 1903, Axminster being settled on as the junction, the branch crossing the main line by a flyover, the line terminating at a bay on the North side of Axminster Station. Carriages were pulled by Adams 4-4-2 radial tank engines. The line was closed in 1965.
