Full Description

Field system. Pronounced strip lynchets. <1> On the north-west slope of Metherhills, around SY 916794, are remains of very slight and indistinct contour strip lynchets, formerly part of the open fields of Kimmeridge. <2> Completely ploughed out, the area which once incorporated these lynchets is currently under a cereal crop. <3> Earthworks of a medieval field system with strip lynchets are visible on aerial photographs taken in 1945 at Metherhills, Kimmeridge <4-5>. They are now plough levelled. The site was digitally plotted during the Wild Purbeck Mapping Project.
