Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
Branch railway built between Milton Newton and Bridport, opening in 1857. It operated as a broad gauge until replaced by narrow gauge in 1871. It was extended to Bridport Harbour in 1884, although the terminal station was called West Bay in deference to the company which was anxious to develop tourism. The Bridport - West Bay section was closed in 1930, and the rest of the line closed in 1975.
