Summary
The water tower is dated 1886 and is built of square Purbeck stone. The building is in medieval military style. On the east face, between the windows, is the date stone. Above this, below the parapet, is a stone inscribed "239 ft above sea level". Immediately above this is a stone panel lettered "Swanage Water Works". The parapet is finished with battlements. In the front righthand corner is a circular projecting turret with a seagull weathervane. Attached to the south of the tower is a single-storey block with Purbeck stone walls and roof.

Full Description
The water tower is dated 1886 and is built of square Purbeck stone. The building is in medieval military style and the tower is of three stages, the centre stage has two round-headed windows in the north and east faces. On the east face, between the windows, is the date stone. Above this, below the parapet, is a stone inscribed "239 ft above sea level". Immediately above this is a stone panel lettered "Swanage Water Works", this is now rather faint. The top stage of the tower has two narrow slit windows in each face. The parapet is finished with battlements above a projecting string course. In the front righthand corner is a circular projecting turret with a seagull weathervane. Attached to the south of the tower is a single-storey block with Purbeck stone walls and roof. <2>
