A lock-up built in 1820. Limestone ashlar with a slate roof. The building was converted to use as a fire engine house in the nineteenth century.

Full Description
A little stone prison known as the Salisbury gave its name to Salisbury Street. It was built during the 13th and 14th centuries by one of the Earls of Salisbury. Inside are the Town Stocks. <1>
(SZ 00879032) The prison was rebuilt in 1820 and is now used as a Corporation Store. There are no visible remains of the 14th century building. The stocks are no longer inside. <2>
The Gaol, Grade 2. One storey, of stone with a slate roof. In the south-west wall is a wide carriage entrance dating from its use as a fire-engine house in the late 19th century. <3-4>
