Title | 'Restoration of the Roman Pavement' Dorset County Chronicle |
Author/Originator | Anon |
Date/Year | 1858 |
Abstract/Summary
"RESTORATION OF THE ROMAN PAVEMENT – We had omitted to state in the Chronicle of last week that the tessellated pavement taken from the consecrated ground within the gaol precincts had been relaid in the most admirable and workman-like manner, so as to form an ornamental flooring within the communion rails of the gaol chapel, by Mr. David Pearce, a very skilful workman in the employment of Mr. Gregory, builder, Dorchester. It does ample credit to his intelligence and dexterity as it is a perfect reproduction of the original, of the same exact dimensions, and out of the self-same materials, and will no doubt continue for ages to present a precise idea of this simple but beautiful geometric design."
