Abstract/Summary
"DORCHESTER ANTIQUITIES EXHIBITED AT LIVERPOOL.
-It appears from Friday’s Liverpool Mercury that a
meeting of the literary section of the Liverpool Historic
Society, was held on Thursday evening, at which “Mr.
Wallace Fyfe, editor of the Dorset County Chronicle,
exhibited through Mr. Eckroyd Smith, some Roman
articles in pottery, painted mortar &c., which had
recently been exhumed from the Castle grounds at Dor-
chester.” The following was the list of articles for-
warded to the Society:-
1-1. Two parts of snaffle of horses’ bit – iron.
2-2. Bronze ring plates, flattened axis, and cortex or cork,
still adhering, of amphora stopper.
3. Portion of face and headdress of baked red clay
figure in rilievo.
4. Portion of wooden carved figure like horse’s pastern.
5. Fragment of stamped pottery.
6. Neck of jar.
7. Bottom of ditto, fine ware.
8. Ditto of small ditto, red ware.
9. Ditto “ “ with lateral depressions."
