Abstract/Summary
ASI maintained an archaeological watching brief during groundworks and opening up associated with the refurbishment of St. Johns’ Almshouses, Sherborne in November and December 2003.
Groundwork was restricted to a new electricity main trench measuring 0.3m wide and 0.3m deep across the forecourt. It followed the line of an existing gas main and only disturbed ground was recorded.
Opening up and demolitions only effected 19th-20th century walls constructed of band sawn softwood studs. No fresh exposures of historic fabric were made. No artefacts were recovered.
