Abstract/Summary

A photographic survey and archaeological watching brief were carried out by AC Archaeology at the site of the former Johnson’s Yard, South Street during 1997. The exterior architectural details of existing buildings were photographed. The observation of groundworks revealed a small number of undated and post-medieval archaeological features surviving on the margins of the site. A large part of the site, including the South Street frontage had been severely truncated in the 20th century. Two possible latrine pits and a linear ditch at the northern end of the site remain undated but may represent the rear boundaries of Long Street properties. Possible post-medieval occupation along the eastern edge of the site was represented by an undated pit and a possible 18th century terrace.
