Abstract/Summary

'An evaluation was carried out on approximately 0.25ha of land immediately to the rear of 58 West Street and south of West Street car park on the western fringes of Corfe Castle village. Currently the site contains a paddock and part of a private garden and is due for housing development and the provision of a doctor's surgery and parking. Two trenches were excavated. One revealed three ditches, two aligned east-west and a third aligned north south. Half a shale lathe core was recovered from the latter and a considerable amount of medieval pottery was recovered from all the ditches. Two further north-south aligned ditches were revelaed in the second trench, along with two possible post holes, possibly the remains of a former fence-line. Medieval and post-medieval pottery, animal bone and slag were recovered.
