Abstract/Summary

AC archaeology carried out a programme of archaeological observations during an extension to The Cedars Nursing Home, Angel Lane, Shaftesbury. A single pit was found and excavated, yielding an assemblage of animal bone and pottery, the latter unlikely to post-date the 12th- or early 13th century . The discovery is significant because it indicates earlier medieval activity in a part ofShaftesbury conventionally regarded as a later medieval suburb.
