Author/Originator | Ladle, L, and O'Hara, C |
Date/Year | 1995 |
Abstract/Summary
A report on observations and recording in the vicinity of North Bestwall Barn. Eleven sections of service trenches were observed.
Three pits were recorded in the immediate vicinity of the barn. Elsewhere a ditch with U-shaped profile, a possible ditch or pit, and a posthole were observed. Finds ranging from prehistoric to post-medieval were recovered.
The authors conclude 'Due to the paucity of dating evidence, it is not possible to assign any of the features to any particular period. However, the range of finds together with documentary evidence indicates human activity on the site perhaps from the Bronze Age to modern times. The ditch [D1] may have been part of a sub-circular enclosure, such ditches are common features on Iron Age and Roman sites.'
