Abstract/Summary

An archaeological watching brief on groundworks associated with the Wessex Water/West Dorset District Council scheme to install mains drainage in Buckland Newton was conducted by Southern Archaeological Services Ltd. Observations were limited to the stripping of the easement. Incomplete removal of topsoil combined with very wet conditions to restrict the effectiveness of recording. No deposits or features defiantly predating the Early Modern era were located. Several undated easrthworks were identified, and a mammoth tooth was recovered from an unstratified context.
