Abstract/Summary

Observations made during groundworks for a new dwelling, garage and access on land at the junction of Bird’s Lane and North Street, Charminster. The development site lies on the edge of the historic core of the village and ajdacent to the principal (?Medieval) thoroughfare along the west side of the Cerne Valley. In 1986 during the construction of a housing development at Meadow View, (to the south of the site), a number of archaeological features were recorded. The topsoil had an average depth of 0.20m. The weathered chalk surface was exposed across the site. No archaeological features were present although a number of periglacial features were observed in section on the exposed face of the terrace.
