Abstract/Summary

Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by Southern Electric plc to carry out an archaeological watching brief during works to replace overhead cable support poles at two locations to the south-west of Shapwick, Dorset (centred on NGR ST 935 016). One of these sites is located close to the Shapwick Barrow, a Bronze Age burial mound which has been designated a Scheduled Monument (County No. 119). The second site was located adjacent to the Roman Road which runs from Badbury Rings to Dorchester. No features or deposits of archaeological significance were observed. The archive is currently stored at the offices of Wessex Archaeology at Old Sarum,Salisbury, under the site code W2488, but will be deposited at the Dorset County Museum, Dorchester in due course.
