Abstract/Summary

Comparison of the likely physical impact of non-elective repair and restoration works proposed for the Nesting Site and Duck Decoy at Abbotsbury Swannery in Dorset, with a deposit model compiled on the basis of historical and archaeological analyses, suggests the works and ongoing maintenance would have minimal physical on the archaeological potential of the site. This derives from the archaeological nature of the site and the generally accretive nature of the restoration proposals. There would be some visual affects, caused by the need to physically project the remains of a 17th century enclosing wall from marine incursion, but this could be mitigated by enhanced visitor information about the rest of the wall’s circuit and its function.
