Abstract/Summary
Report on a desk-based assessment carried out in 2013 by Cotswold Archaeology for Good Energy in relation to a proposed solar park. A study area of 1km around the proposed development site was used. No designated heritage assets were situated within the proposed development site, but there were several in the vicinity; the proposed development site was not visible from any of these monuments. The author considered that the setting of the designated assets would not be appreciably adversely affected by the proposed development, and their overall significance would be unchanged.
Non-designated heritage assets in the study area included the line of the former Bovington Camp military railway in the south-western part of the site, a prehistoric linear earthwork, medieval settlement remains, and a number of find spots.
The author also felt that there was some limited potential for survival of currently unrecorded archaeological remains, particularly of the prehistoric period, but that these were unlikely to be of sufficient significance to warrant preservation in situ or require alteration of the proposed design.
