Abstract/Summary

An archaeological field evaluation of the proposed development of new facilities at the Dudsbury Girl Guide Camp was carried out by AC archaeology during early June 1999. The site lies wholly within the western portion of the interior of Dudsbury Hillfort, West Parley, (Ancient Monument no Dorset 90). Four evaluation trenches were hand-excavated within areas likely to be affected by new building. Three subsoil features of likely archaeological origin were identified, one of which was a probable pit or ditch terminal containing a small quantity of Iron Age Pottery. Moderate quantities of burnt flint were recovered from many layers. Iron Age pottery was present elsewhere in residual contexts only in very small quantities.
