Abstract/Summary

Observations and recording in February 2012 during groundworks for construction of three new residential apartments at the former British Rail store site. The remains of a stone wall which is thought to be part of the north-east corner of the 17th-century George Tavern were exposed. Two other walls of brick and stone, thought probably to be 19th or 20th -century in date. The works did not go deep enough to expose the medieval/post-medieval reclamation deposits that are predicted to occur on this site.
