Abstract/Summary
'Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by Southern Electric plc to carry out an archaeological watching brief during works to install an overhead cable support pole and to lay associated cable trenches at Lower Farm, Winterborne Whitechurch, Dorset. A section of the proposed work was located within the known site of a deserted medieval village which is designated as a Scheduled Monument (Dorset M814: Winterborne Whitechurch No. 15). Further small-scale groundworks were also observed.
The watching brief was undertaken in May 1997. A small amount of post-medieval pottery was recovered from a location close to a buried chalk surface which was 0.6m below the existing yard level.'
