Title | Land at Worgret Road, Wareham, Desk based archaeology assessment |
Author/Originator | Terence O'Rourke plc |
Date/Year | 2010 |
Abstract/Summary
The assessment was carried out prior to future development by Bloor Homes to describe the existing archaeological resource of the potential site and to assess the nature and significance of any impact on these. The site was located at the western end of Worgret Road, Wareham and comprised 4.67 ha of agricultural land. The archaeological resource across the site was partially known. It was situated in an area of medium archaeological potential based on a determination by Dorset County Council in 2010 that evidence of prehistoric field boundaries and round houses found on the east side of Wareham could occur on the west side and that the site's position to the west of a significant town wall settlement might contain evidence for medieval industry. Some excavation had occurred in the past.
